You're reading: Kuwaiti diplomat: ‘I’m not satisfied with the level of our cooperation’

Editor’s Note: The following are excerpts from an interview with Talal A.S. Al-Hazza, acting ambassador of Kuwait in Ukraine.

KP: What are the economic ties between Ukraine and Kuwait?

TA: We established our embassy in Ukraine in 1995. But I’m not satisfied with the level of our cooperation. But we need to sign and activate the agreements on the governmental level to enhance our relationships. We are waiting for the Ukrainian side to sign the tax agreement with us. And I am happy that Ukraine has finally named the new ambassador to Kuwait, because despite Ukraine’s embassy working in Kuwait since 2002, we didn’t have an ambassador from Ukraine for the last seven years.

KP: What are the potential investments from Kuwait to Ukraine?

TA: To encourage investment from Kuwait, you should protect the capital that comes to your country by following the rule of low. And we are talking about millions and billions of dollars in investment. My country is interested in banking and construction sectors, but we are waiting for Ukraine to open its door to us. Some Kuwaiti companies have started working in the energy sector in Ukraine.
