They were clearly not enjoying it.

Some 145 cats hoarded for the Ukraine Championship on Jan. 30 were hissing at each other and giving nasty looks to their owners for putting them through this circus.

Put in separate cages, some waited impatiently to be inspected by judges while others – with astonished eyes – gazed at hundreds of visitors who paid Hr 20 to look at them.

British shorthair, Scottish fold, Bambino and Sphynx cats were among the many types who competed. Hair (if any), eyes, ears and even character were taken into the account to win a ribbon trophy. Girls competed with boys – a nice sign of gender equality, at least in the animal world.

Bred in 2004, Ukrainian Levkoy – a hairless type with twisted ears — was on display as well. You could buy three-month old baby Lulu on the spot for $300.

In the atmosphere of general fatigue, the only place where cats seemed to relax was a photo booth. Placed in a rather professional small studio, they posed with feathers and balls for some 20 minutes for family albums and portrait shots.
