You're reading: Gogol Bar-dello to open in October

Yet another exciting venue will open this autumn. The lead singer of Gogol Bordello band Eugene Hütz is set to open a new Gogol Bar-dello club in Kyiv this October. Lubomir Vasiliev, known for organizing BalkanFest, is said to be his partner in this business.

Vasiliev said to Vesti daily newspaper that the
venue will include a music bar and concert hall. In the music bar visitors will
enjoy snacks and cocktails, while the concert hall will host concerts of both
Ukrainian and foreign bands.

The prices are promised to be affordable for
average visitors. The club will accommodate about 1,000 guests. The design is
said to be “in Gogol Bordello’s style.” Hutz’s friend Kirill Prozenko, an artist
and decorator, will work on the club’s interior design.

Vasiliev also mentioned that he is already
working on the club’s concert schedule for spring of 2014, and is negotiating
with more than 50 bands. According to Vesti, Hütz is expected to spend the
whole winter in Ukraine, helping to promote the club. And surely he will
perform on its opening night with Gogol Bordello.

“When the owners of the club or a restaurant
are famous people, this is the right way,” says restaurateur Viola Kim from
Kyiv. “And if it is done in their segment, it is cool. I mean, if he (Eugene
Hütz) opened some luxury fish restaurant that would be quite weird. But he is
opening a club with live music. This is great.”

Kim explains that the main rule is “that the
venue’s concept should not differ from the person, with whom it is bounded.”
