Inspired by the anti-government protests in Kyiv, illustrator Oleksander Komyahov and journalist Andrey Pryimachenko started an art project that portrays what they deem to be typical characters of EuroMaidan.
The project was initiated by Pryimachenko,
who needed illustrations for short stories about the protest participants and reached out to Komyahov for artistic help.
Komyahov, the artist behind the adventure graphic novel “Chub” (Forelock, 2013), created the first pictures in January. Now the series counts over 10 cartoons.

and Pryimachenko portrayed not specific people, but typical representatives of EuroMaidan,
focusing on their activities. The pictures include the barricade builder, volunteer nurse, priest, Molotov cocktail maker and more.

“The character called ‘Present Girl’ was the first and the brightest,” says Komyahov.

“’Present
girl’ represents the type of people who avoid intruding in the protest,” he adds. “They bring
troubles and don’t help the activists.”
Komyahov
