Day 50 of Russia’s horrendous war inflicted so cynically and barbarically on Ukraine and its people! It is like spitting mucous on the face of civilization, international law, and everything we deem decent.
So much can be said. But let’s be concise, and limit it to the following.
Thanks to all those who have stood by Ukraine and will continue to do so! It’s so important that you understand, care and are doing what you can. Without you, the challenge Ukraine faces would seem so much more daunting.
As for the Ukrainian nation, you have shown your heroism and resolve. You have not allowed the cowardly missile attacks on your towns and cities by the Russian barbarians to break your spirit. You and your president are showing to the whole world that even in the darkest moments these are undoubtedly among your finest hours.
You are writing history and transforming who we are and what and where we are at!
Brave citizens of Mariupol, Kharkiv, Bucha, Chernihiv, Irpin, Kherson, Melitopol, Kyiv and countless other heroic cities, towns, and villages, we salute you, as we do all the brave defenders of Ukraine.
You have put to shame the Russian military monster and exposed the crudity of his imperialistic claims to be a champion of the “Russian” anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western world.
Ukrainians, you have shown by your sacrifices and commitment to democratic civilizational values how united and strong the modern democratic, pro-European Ukrainian political nation has become. Why it finds the Eurasian despotic world represented by Moscow so abhorrent and unacceptable, and why Kyiv deserves its place in the European Union and NATO.
And a word to the Russians condoning and being instruments or accomplices of Putin’s crimes.
Russia’s despicable crimes against Ukraine and humanity have already gone down in history as reminiscent of the worst that Fascist Germany represented and did. Putin is being compared all over the world to Hitler as another Nazi.
Is this the greatness that Russia was awaiting? Has it been genetically programed from the tsarist and Soviet periods to accept this as normal behavior?
To employ the cynical principle of “might is right” to overcome its traditional complexes of inferiority and backwardness, brandishing nuclear weapons and concealing its inherent barbarity behind the fig leaf of the Bolshoi ballet and the Hermitage with its stolen loot?
Or, attempting to be more generous, has Russia been led astray and sacrificed yet again on the altar of a megalomaniac seeking glory, the sort that Hitlers and Stalins crave? Power, sadism, and the acclaim of vassals, slaves, other sycophants and useful idiots.
Russia, come to your senses. Remember your Herzens and Sakharovs. Or be forever damned along with the Caligula in the Kremlin and your identification with your own brand of fascism, Nazism, imperialistic Russian despotism, genocide, or however else your current regime will be labelled.
Russians supporting Putin, you and your nation still have time even at this late moment to change the course of history and your place in it. Act, or pay the price that you and future generations will have to.
Hail to Ukraine! Down with the evil empire that Russia has reverted to. Justice and truth will prevail, for Putin’s Russia has already lost.
