In her new book Hillary Clinton describes an impromptu conversation with Vladimir Putin that took place on the fringes of an economic summit in Vladivostok in 2012. Their exchange lasted perhaps a minute, but it says more about Mr Putin's political psychology and Russia's attitude to the West than any number of scripted speeches ever could.
