In 2010, when Victor Yanukovych defeated Yulia Tymoshenko by a 49-46% margin in the presidential election, it was the first time since 1994 that the “pro-Russian” candidate prevailed in Ukraine. However, despite Yanukovych’s rhetoric, the Kremlin soon became disappointed and angry with the independence of Yanukovych – and Ukraine in general.
