The Kyiv Post is one of Ukraine’s greatest success stories!

In a media environment dominated by personal interests, the Kyiv Post has remained throughout its history an independent source of news for Ukrainians and the international community. Building on the trust of its readership, this English-language media outlet has also helped connect countless individuals with Ukraine, its people and institutions in building an independent, democratic Ukraine.

In 1995, guided by its motto “Independence. Community. Trust.”, the Kyiv Post carved out its English-language niche in the Ukrainian media environment with credible, accurate and objective reporting of all things Ukrainian. It quickly gained a reputation, reinforced by its financial independence, for being one of the most reliable sources of news on Ukraine. The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated.

Nation’s big events

This year’s 20th anniversary of Georgiy Gongadze’s murder on September 16, 2000, served as a stark reminder of the sacrifices that journalists have made for the critical cause of media independence in Ukraine.

The Orange Revolution, which stopped Viktor Yanukovych from taking the presidency in a rigged 2004 election, and the EuroMaidan Revolution, which ended Yanukovych’s presidency in 2014; and Russia’s illegal hybrid aggression against Ukraine, including the occupation of Crimea and invasion of parts of the Donbas since 2014. These were all among the most dramatic and important historical events of the new millennium. These events focused the world’s attention on Ukraine. The Kyiv Post provided the international community with timely and trustworthy information to help understand these new realities and make informed decisions.

Chronicling changes

The Kyiv Post reported courageously on the nefarious resistance by oligarchical clans to reforms that are necessary to improve the daily lives of people in Ukraine and help it gain full membership in the EU and NATO.

The Kyiv Post is consistently countering the massive Russian disinformation campaign to present Ukraine as a failed state with accurate and fact-based reporting.

Ukraine has changed greatly since declaring its independence in 1991 and the Kyiv Post has continuously highlighted and analyzed Ukraine’s incredible success stories, as well as its shortcomings, which helped shape public opinion within and outside Ukraine.

The Kyiv Post offers a window on Ukraine — its politics and society, business and economy, history and education, culture, entertainment, and sports. It brings to light the wealth of opportunities in Ukraine for Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians alike, including diplomats and elected officials, investors, journalists, students, foreign workers, and tourists, and helps draw Ukraine closer to the West. The Kyiv Post provides the West a clear lens through which to appreciate the evolution of a young democracy.

On this impressive milestone, sincere congratulations are in order for the Kyiv Post publisher Adnan Kivan, executive director & chief editor Brian Bonner, their predecessors, the editors, writers and staff for 25 years of outstanding journalism and nation-building!
