78-year-old Mykola Pasichnyck died on March 26, 2020, six years after he was beaten on Maidan by Berkut special force officers and then remanded in custody, charged with attacking those same well-trained officers, some 40 years his junior. Neither prosecutor, nor judge thought it of relevance that it was Pasichnyk who had needed hospitalization, nor did they ask how a man who had lost control of one arm was supposed to have attacked anybody.

Halya Coynash: Beaten and jailed Maidan activist Pasichnyk dies

Officers of the now-disbanded Berkut riot police unit open fire on EuroMaidan protesters on Hrushevsky Street in central Kyiv on Feb. 20, 2014. At least 48 people were killed on that day, the bloodiest of the three-months-long protest. While more than 100 protesters were killed during the protests, no one has yet been brought to justice for their deaths.
