Pence, for example, offers his own view that President Obama was born in the United States. If he were honest, he would defend Donald Trump’s skepticism about Obama’s birth certificate. (He was only asking questions.) Pence doesn’t do that because it’s nuts. So why again is he running with Trump?

The job of a vice-presidential nominee is to help the top of the ticket articulate and defend his positions as well as attack the opposition. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is doing a credible job of the latter - it's hardly a difficult task to get Republican audiences riled up about Hillary Clinton. He is not, however, really doing the former. He is instead defending himself.
