Jewgen Worobiow: Poroshenko triumphs in the first round of election
Ukraine has never had presidential elections like this one. This poll was organized in a situation of a de-facto war, with candidates spending less money and less time on television. The turnout was unprecedented in Kyiv and Western Ukraine; still very high in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk. Voters have been more skeptical about candidates than ever, but also more mature and substantive in their criticism. Finally, for the first time since Leonid Kravchuk at the beginning of Ukraine’s independence, the president will have been elected in the first round. That is a huge relief for those who want the country to move on. But also a proper occasion to ask that "what-next?" question.
