Democracy is not an outcome, but a continuous and changing process. Safeguarding it requires strong institutions and the rule of law. Despite the disgraceful spectacle of rioters overtaking the U.S. Capitol, America’s institutions and the rule of law prevailed. Democracy advocates around the world should take note, and take heart.
