New Europe: Too little, too late for Ukraine

Feeling the heat from the Russian-backed South Stream gas pipeline and increasingly alienated from the EU over the Yulia Tymoshenko case, Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovich hinted on 25 August he may soften his stance against Russia over gas prices and membership of the Moscow-backed Customs Union.
