The
agreement specified a task to work out with the German side the issue
of medical aid to the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who suffered
in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation, with the aim of
treatment in Germany, at the cost of the federal government of
Germany, of 20 most critically wounded soldiers.

The
Ukrainians made up a list of 22 patients based on the criteria of the
severity of their state, which has lasted for a long time.

The
German doctors examined all patients who were at the time treated at
the main military medical clinical hospital, and also in
Dnipropetrovsk Mechnikov regional hospital (via video consultations),
as a result of which they picked 20 wounded soldiers. Mostly they
picked patients with acute pathology, in other words those who were
freshly wounded.

Kyiv Post+ is a special project covering Russia’s war against Ukraine and the aftermath of the EuroMaidan Revolution.

They
decided against picking the servicemen who need prosthetics and a
long rehabilitation. In their stead, they picked those wounded whom
they could treat from the start, based on their own methodology.

In
our opinion, the principal for selection by the German side was
right, since a good doctor takes responsibility for the result of the
treatment and has to take cases they are capable of curing.

The
best thing in this case was that the German doctors by themselves
came to us and picked their patients, thus taking responsibility for
curing them. Forcing petients upon them would be unethical on our
side towards our colleagues from Bundeswehr
(Federal Defense), and would not give any guarantees that they would
be cured.

Ukraine
is very grateful to Germany for understanding and help in this
difficult time.
