August 29 is an official Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine who died in a battle for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This date is chosen because in August 2014, the first year of the war in Donbas, Ukraine suffered the greatest losses during the whole period of independence as the battles for the city of Ilovaisk in Donetsk Oblast were ongoing.
