The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is gathering for a two-day extraordinary session that will take place in hybrid mode between March 14-15.

All five political groups, including Socialists, Democrats and Greens Group, European People’s Party, European Conservatives Group and Democratic Alliance, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Unified European Left Group, initiated the session, according to an official statement. They are looking to discuss the consequences of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.

The President of the Assembly has invited Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to address the Assembly by teleconference on Monday, March 14.

The Assembly is also expected to hear a communication from the Committee of Ministers, the Council of Europe’s executive body, as well as exchange views with the Organisation’s Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić.

The debate is expected to take place on Tuesday.

Previously, the Committee of Ministers suspended the Russian Federation’s rights of representation.

Meanwhile, the United Nations International Court of Justice in The Hague has commenced investigating Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. Russia has refused to participate in the hearing, dubbing it “absurd”.
