Given the deep freeze into which relations between Ukraine and Russia have been plunged in recent years, the weekend’s events marked a distinct thaw. Thirty-five prisoners on each side, taken during the proxy conflict taking place in eastern Ukraine, were exchanged in what appears to be the opening gambit in efforts to ease tensions.
