Ukraine held the parliamentary snap elections yesterday, on July 21. The Verkhovna Rada is elected under the mixed voting system, in which 50 percent of all 450 seats are distributed under party lists and the other half gets elected through first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies. Thus, several of exit polls gave a clue of how the parties which have passed the 5 percent threshold will divide only the 225 “proportional” seats. The Rada’s “majoritarian” half remained unclear until today, as the counted votes showed even more decisive victory of Zelensky’s party which now clearly gets more than half seats in the parliament. Thus, Zelensky consolidates full executive power and nearly-full legislative power.
