bought a $22 billion app made by a Kyiv local

Facebook company paid nearly $22 billion for the
WhatsApp company service developed by an Ukrainian emigrant Yan Kum.

Yan was born in Kyiv in 1976, he grew up in
Fastiv city (Kyiv Oblast). In 1992, the boy with his mother and grandmother
emigrated to the United States where he entered the University of San Jose.
However, he left the university and chose a career to focus on. Yan became an
excellent programmer and got a job in a company Yahoo. Partnered by Brian Ekton
he invented a mobile application. In 2009, Yan and Brian founded his own
company WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular mobile
instant messengers in the world allowing owners of mobile devices to share
messages, pictures, videos and audio files. At present time WhatsApp numbers
more than 500 million users.

Yan Kum will continue running the service and
member Facebook board.

artist became the youngest patron in Ukraine

Kira Mykytenko, a 6 y.o. artist, became the
youngest patron in Ukraine. The funds from selling the girl’s pictures, exposed
at the personal exhibition, were used for charity needs.

In particular, the pediatric intensive care unit
of the Institute for pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology bought a device to
monitor functioning of the heart and breathing of sick children.

The Japanese
learned to paint Easter eggs, make puppets and dance hopak

The Kanto region (Japan) hosted the first
Ukrainian Festival. The event was attended by about 400 people. Among the
guests were both Ukrainians, the Japanese and Russians, the French, Indians and
citizens of other countries.

Visitors had an opportunity to learn pysanka
painting and doll-motanka creating arts, to sing Ukrainian songs, to dance, to
get some knowledge on Ukrainian language, culture and traditions; to enjoy
Ukrainian cuisine as well. The youngest guests were able to see the Ukrainian
cartoons.

The funds raised from the sale of souvenirs and
workshops will be sent to Ukrainian soldiers injured during the war.

An analog of
Sumerian Eris temple found in Kirovohrad Oblast

The group of British and Ukrainian
archaeologists found in Kirovohrad Oblast (Nebelivka village, Novoarkhanhelsk
district) ruins of a huge ancient temple with the remains of humans and animals
sacrificed. Researchers have found that findings relate to Tripoli culture of
Copper Age (5500-2750 years BC). Age temple is about 6000 years old.

The temple area, whose sizes were 60 m by 20 m,
looked like a two-storey building made ​​of wood and clay. The latest researches
showed that the ancient settlement occupied an area of ​​about 238 hectares.
There were more than 1,2 thousand buildings in 50 streets.

Inside the building one could find 8 clay plates
(one of them had a lot of lambs’ bones charred). On the ground floor there were
7 additional platforms, courtyard studded with animal bones and fragments of
pottery. The floor and walls in five rooms on the second floor were painted in
red.

The temple resembles religious buildings of the
Middle East of the same period and age (Sumerian Eris temple).
