Kyiv photo fest gathers real patriots of Ukraine

Aug.31 Kyiv Taras Shevchenko park hosts charitable photo fest to raise funds for the treatment of Ukrainian soldiers and purchase of necessary things for the ones who take part in anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine; and to promote domestic tourism as well. More than 50 professional photographers and photography enthusiasts from different cities of Ukraine sent their works for the fest.

Visitors can donate by buying photos (the price varies from UAH25 to UAH100) and various souvenirs.

At the end of the festival organizers managed to collect UAH 8284.

Georgians will be taught to draw Petrykivka-style birds of happiness

Sept.26-Oct.5, 2014 Georgia to host the first large Petrykivka painting exhibition. Among the exhibit items are paintings on paper, canvas, painted towels, plates, clothes from Ukrainian designer Lyubov Chernikova; photos, books on Petrykivka, movie about the development and current life of Petrikivka village and its talented residents.

Locals of Tbilisi will see works by such Ukrainian artists as Halina Nazarenko and Olena Yarmolyuk from Petrykivka village and Natalia Malyarchuk from Lviv. T

The event agenda includes lectures and workshops; birds of happiness painting performance involving Ukrainian and Georgian artists, open workshop in Tilde Tilde art cafe. The exhibition art coordinator Nina Burnevich mentioned her plans to present the project in other countries.

The movie about Ukrainian unbreakable bandura players to be shown in Toronto

This autumn documentary ‘Music of Survival’ is shown in Toronto for the first time. This movie is a story about legendary Ukrainian bandura players chapel of World War II.

The movie was made by Hollywood sound director and bandura player Oleh Sushko who is originally from Toronto. Two bandura players form ‘The Brave Seventeen’ (as the chapel was called then) Petrus, who was just 14 y.o. during the war, and Mykola Liskivskiy, who is 102 y.o. now, will attend the documentary premier.

According to Marco Farion, who played in chapel for 25 years, the movie will show how the chapel was taken captive, how German army entered Kyiv, ‘Germans made them to give performances for camp prisoners. They went through Nazi violence and moved to Detroit after the war. The chapel still exists nowadays’.

Jackie Chan chose Ukrainian bears one of the best

Ukrainian girl Anastasia is one of the winners of International Competition for Buddy Bear design organized by popular actor Jackie Chan and JC Group Fund. The competition participants had to design two meters long bears model that would proclaim peace, love and empathy between nations. Anastasia designed eco-friendly bear.

Besides Ukrainian participants from Poland and Indonesia won in the 11-19 y.o. age category. Winners in another two age groups, ‘under 11′ and ’19+’ were also chosen.

The winners’ designs will be showcased at International Art Exhibition United Buddy Bears. Totally, 208 people from all over the world participated in the competition.

Two sisters opens high Ukrainian culture institute in Sweden

Ukrainian piano player Natalia Pasichnyk and her sister Olha, singer of Warsaw Opera House, opened Ukrainian Institute in Sweden for high Ukrainian culture promotion.

The musical concert for the support of Ukraine was a part of inauguration program. The Princess of Sweden, USA and Georgia ambassadors attended the event. 90% of visitors were the Swedes.

‘After today’s concert people came to me by saying ‘We couldn’t even imagine that you have such talents’, Olha Pasichnyk mentioned.

According to Natalia Pasichnyk recent Ukrainian events motivate local people not just to watch but to be interested in all Ukrainian things as well.
