Canada releases the second silver pysanka-shaped coin
The Royal Canadian Mint has released the second 1 oz silver coin ‘Traditional Ukrainian Easter Egg-2017″.
The coin is made of 99.99 percent pure silver. The mintage is just 5,000 coins.
The egg-shaped reverse design by Canadian artist Ann C.Morash (Ukrainian by origin) weaves together patterns and symbols that capture the artistry of a Ukrainian Easter Egg. Positioned within four triangular segments are golden blades of wheat, which convey best wishes for harvest and the soul of the clan. Beneath this overlay, the field is filled with the geometric figures that represent the sun and stars, to symbolize life, fortune and growth. These are framed by bands of waves that celebrate water as a life-sustaining element and harmony, which are in turn framed by evergreen boughs positioned along the edge, to symbolize eternal health and youth.

The first silver pysanka-shaped coin was released on Feb. 20, 2016 and was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the first Ukrainian settlements in Canada.

Borshch, Bandura and crafts – ‘Ukrainian Days in Cape Town’ start
Feb. 28-April ‘Ukrainian Days in Cape Town’ will be first held in South Africa.
The event program includes: an exhibition of books, film shows, workshops on traditional crafts, presentation of Ukrainian cuisine (borshch, varenyks, deruns (potato pancakes), etc.), bandura compositions performance.
As statistics shows more than 500 Ukrainians live in Cape Town.

The largest Polish airlines connects Warsaw and Kyiv
February,27 LOT Polish Airlines opened Warsaw-Kyiv flight performed six days a week. Departure of Warsaw is scheduled at 22:40, Kyiv departure time is 06:00. The flights will be operated on aircrafts Embraer ERJ-195s with a capacity of 112 passengers.
Passenger service is provided in 4 classes: Business, Premium Economy, Economy, Simple Economy (only hand luggage).
Return ticket cost is around $183.

USAID to launch a four-year program to support Ukrainian farmers
August 7 the US Agency for International Development (USAID) plans to begin implementation a four-year program to support Ukrainian small and medium farmers through rural area development and agricultural sector as a whole. The agency is going to invest $20 million.
The program is to:
– contribute to reducing barriers for business and improving conditions for small and medium agricultural enterprises;
– provide attractive living conditions in rural areas and prevent unemployment of rural area residents;
– increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian agricultural products;
– implement quality and safety international standards;
– open access of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU new export markets;
– create a clear legal basis for functioning Ukraine’s land market, as well as, reforms to raise funds for irrigation systems modernization.

NSC ‘Olimpiyskiy’, Champions League final host, is succesfully inspected by UEFA
In 2018 NSC ‘Olimpiyskiy’, Ukraine’s main sports arena, will host the first in the country’s history UEFA Champions League Final. To check the technical condition of the stadium UEFA inspectors visited Kyiv on Feb. 28.
In particular, the commission has inspected:
– server room where all information on the stadium life-support systems is collected (turnstiles, fire safety, cold rooms and lighting control);
– rooms on the foodball field control (Norwegian light construction makes the lawn emerald green even in early March. 192 lamps create the effect of an artificial sun. This light promotes good photosynthesis and the right grass growth);
– special rooms with bars designed for fans-hooligans (four chambers: two – for women and two – for men);
Overall, the auditors were satisfied with the inspection results.
The sporting event will be accompanied with concert programs, quests, fairs and conferences. It is also planned to organize a grand show Europe has never seen before. In this context, UEFA has put forward additional requirements, in particular, techincal support (light, sound) and ecology.
