‘Mavka. Forest Song’ animation win Europeans

‘Mavka. Forest Song’ was recognized as the best among 50 projects presented at Cartoon Movie, the leading European animation forum, held in Bordeaux. It should be noted that the Ukrainian product took part in the forum for the first time.

Before the forum started its participants had known about ‘Mavka. Forest Song’ because its main character, Mavka, covered Animation Magazine, the event official partner that was distributed massively among the forum visitors.

The work on the full-length animated film based on the play by Lesya Ukrainka is in the process. The team attracted the best ethnographers of Ukraine to accurately reproduce the life and traditions of ancient Ukrainians. The cartoon will be screened in 2019.

This year’s ‘Cartoon Movie’ forum gathered about 800 animation industry players from 40 countries.

Cossack songs enter UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List

‘Cossack songs of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’ entered UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Yevhen Nyshchuk, the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, gave the certificate to Hlib Pryhunov, the head of Dnipropetrovsk regional council.

The songs from three districts of the region are presented in the nomination, villages of Kocherezhky and Bohuslav, and the town of Pidhorodne.
It took several years to collect and process authentic songs. The work included folklore expeditions to 16 towns, a huge volume of audio, video, photo and text information collected; digitizing old records of songs, search of singers, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Cossack Song Festival, establishment of folklore center and print of Cossack songs collection.

‘Boryspil’ airport ranks third in TOP-10 best in Eastern Europe

International airport ‘Boryspil’ ranks third in TOP-10 best airports in Eastern Europe.

The list was published by British research agency ‘Sky Trax’.

The first and second places were taken by Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport and Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport respectively.

Jean Reno stars in ‘Polina’ movie

French actor Jean Reno starred in ‘Polina’, an adventure fantasy for the whole family, directed by Olias Barco.

‘I was pleased to be part of the ‘Ukrainian adventure’, the fantasy film ‘Polina’. I was glad to meet and work with a young Ukrainian actress Polina Pechenenko who is so shy and tine’, Jean Reno shares his impressions of the shooting.

‘Polina’ tells the story of 11-year-old girl who knows nothing about her past and the fate of the parents. She lives in a house with an evil aunt and a cousin who are planning to get rid of the girl and receive her secret inheritance. Polina manages to escape and she goes on a magical journey in search of the truth about her family.

‘Polina is an English-language feature with the worldwide distribution scheduled for 2018. It is co-produced by WILD TRIBE FILMS (Belgium, France) and FILM.UA (Ukraine) under support of the State Agency of Ukraine for movie.

Ukrainian biologists invent cure for cancer in Antarctica

During research expedition in Antarctica Ukrainian scientists managed to invent a cure for cancer.

As Valerii Lytvynov, Director of National Antarctic Centre, says the microorganisms have incredible сharacteristics, ‘The biologists invented a cure based on Antarctic organisms that live there in extreme conditions and have unique characteristic. The cure can help to heal cancer of stage 4’.
The Institute of Biology of Taras Shevchenko University has received a license for the cure called ‘Milove’. However, cancer patients cannot get the medicine because it is being tested (tests in human trials included).
