Around 6000 people embroidered map of Ukraine
January 22, an
embroidered map of Ukraine was presented at International Convention Center
‘Ukrainian House’. For the last six months the map had been travelling around
Ukraine. The map dimensions is 2×1,5m.
The map was included
into National Records of Ukraine for the number of people worked at it
(officially, recorded number is 3255, non-official number is more than 6000
people).
The map required 10km
of threads of 25 various tones. The flag of all Ukrainian regions and the
Autonomous republic of Crimea are cross-stitched. The creators specially
emphasized Russian border with other color. Besides that a special amulet which
supposed to absorb all bad things was quilted into the map.
The map to be hung in
the Verkhovna Rada Session Hall.
‘Stronger than Arms’ documentary will be shown
at Stanford University
January 29, the first full-length documentary
‘Stronger than Arms’ by BABYLON’13 art-group to be presented at Bechtel International
Center of Stanford University (USA). The movie tells about evolution of events
in Ukraine starting from December 1, 2014 up to the severe fights at Donetsk
Airport.
The movie will be shown in original language
with English subtitles.
The movie presentation will be followed by
the interactive meeting with Valeria Korabliova, Professor of Philosophy at
Taras Shevchenko National University and Maidan activist.
Kyiv students
won 8 medals in Kazakhstan
Eight Ukrainian pupils won medals at XI
International Zhautykov Olympiad on mathematics, physics and informatics held
on January 11-17, in Almaty (Kazakhstan Republic).
The gold was captured by Natalia
Khotiaytseva, Anton Tryhub (mathematics) and Eugen Kazmin (informatics), the
silver was won by Denis Nartsev (mathematics), Danilo Lebyd, Victor
Miroshnichenko and valentin Visyn (physics) and bronze went to Vadim Prokopets
(informatics).
Ukrainian team was represented by the pupils
of Ukrainian Physics and Matemetics Lyceum under Taras Shevchenko National
University, Kyiv-Pechersk Lyceum №171 ‘Leader’ and Kyiv School ‘Academia’.
According to the Olympiad results Ukrainian
team took second place in non-official rating.
59 teams (391
participants) from 15 countries took part in the Olympiad.

Three young
artists from Lviv Oblast received
prestigious awards in the USA
Three students of Zolochiv Children’s
Activity Centre (Lviv Oblast) were awarded the highest awards, ‘Star Artist’
and ‘Golden Artist’ certificates, at International Children’s Painting Contest
‘Picasso Art Contest’ (USA).
Maria Sukmanova, 16, won ‘Star Artist’ award
and Sofia Kostenko, 12, and Khrystyna Pidhirna, 11, received ‘Golden Artist’
certificates.
Picasso Art Contest jury consists of USA
famous artists. The winners’ works can be found on the contest official

‘Petrykivka
Is Soul of Ukraine’ exhibition welcomes to Kyiv
Over 200 items exposed at ‘Ukraine is soul of
Ukraine’ exhibition opened on January, 20, in Kyiv Center of Ukrainian Art and
Culture.
Towels, tableware, scarves, malovky (pictures
on paper), household items, clothing, birds are brought by 6 painting masters
(Halyna Nazarenko, Olena Yarmolyuk, Iryna Kibets, Victoria Shevchenko, Tetiana
Harkava and Natalia Malyarchuk) and their students.
Work theme shown is different varying from
Ukrainian landscapes, picturesque cabin, images of Taras Shevchenko and
Christmas to patriotic focused one (helmets, pictures portraying the Revolution
of Dignity).
Nina Burnevich, exhibition curator, plans to
tour the exposition around European countries (‘Petrykivka is soul of Ukraine’
project successfully debuted in Georgia last year).
The exhibition is held on the 2nd and 3rd
floors and lasts until February,10.
