Foreigners are invited to share their love for Ukraine

Feb. 6, information portal ‘Good News from Ukraine’ and social project ‘Go Ukraine! Let’s Go’  launched Facebook ‘Protect Ukraine With Love’ Flashmob dedicated to St.Valentine’s Day. The campaign aim is to unite Ukrainians all over the world with chain of love, warmth and unity to their Motherland. All foreigners willing to support Ukraine in this hard time are welcome to join the flashmob.

American Film Fest awards documentary about Chernobyl

The documentary about Chernobyl catastrophe ‘The Russian Woodpecker’ directed by Chad 

Gracia topped at American Independent Film Festival Sundance. 

It took one year and half to shoot the movie. The work is co-production of the USA, UK and Ukraine. This is the first so highly recognized work for Marina Orekhova, film producer, ‘We had 5 screenings during the festival, and at the end of each one all audience got up and applauded. 

Souvenir blue and yellow ribbon pins were extremely popular among the audience’. After Sundance festival ‘The Russian Woodpecker’ will be presented at some other American film festivals. Then it will tour around Europe and Ukraine.

Two Ukrainian pupils are Google Code-in 2014 prize-winners

Illia Kovalesvkiy and Stanislav Kryvenko are among 24 winners of Google Code-in 2014 contest.

In the beginning of June Ukrainians, along with other contest winners, will spend four days at Google head office in Mountain View (California, USA). During the trip they are going to attend award ceremony, meet Google engineers and spend one day in San Francisco.

Google Code-in is a software development contest for pupils to participate in open source. This year during seven weeks 658 contestants completed 3236 code writing tasks, adding functions to the programs, correcting program errors, developing logo and inventing new interesting methods of codes writing.

Polish people are discovering Hutsul Christmas traditions

During New Year and Christmas period a young couple from Warsaw (journalist and Warsaw Philosophical Institute postgraduate) shot a short movie about Hutsul Christmas tradition (koliada) in Kryvorivnya village (Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast). The movie setting are village church, local estate and mountain valley.

‘Why did I chose Hutsul Christmas koliada? I knew about it, saw YouTube videos and always dreamt to see it with my own eyes. This year I finally attended it’, said Philip. – ‘It is one of the best and most important destinations for me now, I will always come back here as every time I discover new feelings and emotions here’.

Philip wants to show zest of Hutsul traditions, beauty of Carpathian sceneries, and discover Hutsulshchina to his countrymen.

Israel to help Ukraine in cancer fight

Israel Cancer Association and Israel Cancer Hospital LISOD plan to establisg an association in Ukraine, social, non-commercial organization, to keep up to date cancer fighting issues.

‘For the last 8 years of our work in Ukraine we have realized that Ukraine needs a project to raise cancer awareness. According to the world statistics early cancer diagnostics saves a lot of lives in 

Israel, USA and Europe’, LISOD administration representatives mentioned.

As a part of the organization campaign LISOD expressed readiness to initiate some programs for early cancer diagnostics and cancer awareness advancing in Ukraine. Israel specialists plan to bring mobile mimeographs to Ukraine to check women resided in remote and hard-to-get areas for breast cancer. The association may also realize another project on opening home assistant hospices for palliative patients to support them at advanced stage of disease.
