A record Petrykivka ornament ‘bihunok’ to be presented at Welcome to Ukrainians 2015′ fest

Petrykivka painting artists Victoria Tymoshenko and her mother Valentyna Khomenko will present culture and art of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast at Tourist Festival ‘Welcome to Ukrainians 2015’.

Besides their works (malyovkas (pictures on paper), wooden handicrafts with Petrykivka ornaments) and workshops two artists will create the longest Petrykivka ornament ‘bihunok’ ever done on paper band. The paper band length can be up to 200 m.

All festival guests can watch the painting process on May 30-31, from 12:00 to 19:00 at Fomin Botanic Garden.

Former Kharkiv resident elected to Israeli government

Ze’ev Elkin, Israeli politician who spent his childhood in Kharkiv, was appointed to the Minister of Immigrant Absorption in the 34th Israeli government.

May, 14 Knesset approved its government headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ze’ev Elkin was born in Kharkiv in 1971 where he studied Mathematics at Kharkiv University. He repatriated to Israel in 1990 where he received Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and History and Master Degree in History in Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Dniproavia airlines to launch Dnipropetrovsk-Odesa flight

‘Dniproavia’ airlines is going to launch Dnipropetrovsk-Odesa flight on May 29. The flights will operate on Emrayer145 plane that can transport 48 passengers.

The flight is planned twice a week. The plane leaves Dnipropetrovsk at 13:00 and arrives in Odesa at 14:10; passengers from Odesa leave at 15:10 and arrive in Dnipropetrovsk at 16:20.

Mr.Falkovskiy, ‘Dniproavia’ airlines Deputy Commercial Director, says that the flight is launched for summer season, ‘It would be better to fly more often, but we’d like to try it twice a week at first’.

Round trip ticket price starts from UAH 2095. The tickets are in sale already.

Ukrainians bested at ‘Five rings of Moscow’

Ukrainian cyclist Oleksandr Polyvoda (Kolss BDC-team) topped at prestigious multi-stage race Five Rings of Moscow dedicated to the 70th Great Patriotic War Victory Anniversary.

The second place went to Ukrainian sportsman Andriy Khrypta (Kyiv capital racing).

In total 155 athletes from Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Germany, Spain, Sweden and other countries participated in the race.

Mark Topchiy wins Guitar Competition in Madrid

Mark Topchiy, 24 y.o., won prestigious international guitar contest Gredos San Diego held in Madrid.

Ukrainian guitar player was the best in all three contest stages (firm program, free program, guitar concert with symphony) and left behind musicians from Korea and Japan.

Thus Mark gained his 25th victory (he won his first competition when he was 11).

At the end of May Mark is going to give a concert in Germany; prestigious contest ‘Parkening’, USA, is the next destination.
