Kyiv actively prepares for Christmas and New Year

December 19, the Day of St.Nicholas, the main Ukraine’s Christmas tree will be opened at St.Sophia Square in Kyiv.

A 26-meter green tree will be brought from Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. It will be decorated with 3km garlands, 42,000 lights, and Yavoriv toys, symbol of coming New Year and Christmas celebrations.

At St. Michael’s Square there will be a 21-meter Ferris wheel, desire tunnel with length of over 20 meters, huge ice sculptures, roundabouts and high slides where both kids and adults can ride (the slide height is 10 m).

Kids can also have fun at Christmas Kinder-space where a wonderful photo-zone, a variety of games and festive train will be offered to enjoy.

‘Ivana Kupala’ band to celebrate its 40th Birthday in Brazil

October, 22 Ukrainian folklore band ‘Ivana Kupala’ will celebrate its 40th birthday.

The band members have been living in Brazil for 40 years and promoting Ukrainian culture and traditions in South America.

The event will take place in Irati and start at 8:30p.m (local time).

Romanians make free long-term visas for Ukrainians

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Romania signed an agreement on free long-term visas for Ukrainians.
The agreement provides free visa for the citizens of Ukraine while staying in Romania for more than 90 days.

As the Department of Consular Service of the MFA of Ukraine comments, the agreement takes effect on October,21.

Odesa emigrants’ descendant wins the Nobel Prize

American singer Bob Dylan (Robert Allen Zimmerman) won the Nobel Prize in Literature ‘for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition’.

Bob Dylan is songwriter, artist, guitarist; has released 6 books of drawings; he has sold over 100 million recordings; he is considered to be one of the most successful musicians of modern time.

There is an interesting fact: Dylan’s paternal grandparents, Zigman and Anna Zimmerman emigrated from Odesa. The couple had to leave for the USA in 1905 following the anti-Semitic attacks.

Modern harvesters to be produced in Kherson

Modern harvesters ‘Toucan’, assembled by Kherson specialists and engineers from the German company Claas, were presented at Kherson Machine-Building Plant.

The machine is made of German components, however, the plant will be modernized and it will produce the necessary machine components as well.

By the end of the year the plant plans to assemble about 100 machines. One machine costs Hr 2 million. Ukrainian farmers will be able to buy them in installments.

Bilateral cooperation between Kherson Machine-Building Plant and the German company Claas is implemented under the national project ‘Grain of Ukraine’ aiming at stimulating development of engineering, and technical upgrade of agricultural machinery park.
