Janis Vingris presents his film about Ukrainian volunteers

The documentary ‘Volunteers’ by Janis Vingris was presented in Riga. The film tells about people who help soldiers in ATO zone and Donbas.

The main heroes are Rodion and Ivan who bring €60,000 to buy night-vision devices, masking mash, dry ration, personal hygiene products and other things for Ukrainian soldiers. The movie also shows soldiers’ lifestyle in the frontline and contains witnesses of developments in Pisky, Avdiivka, Shyrokyno and other occupied towns.

Janis Vingris has been to ATO zone for several times to collect all necessary materials for his movie.

The movie was partly financed on donations, however, most of the finances is the film director’s contribution.

Andriy Shevchenko enters TOP-100 Best Champions League players

The ex-forward of the National Team of Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko took 37th place in TOP-100 Champions League best players ever. This rank was published by French edition L’Equipe.

TOP-10 includes players from Argentina, Spain, Italy, Portugal, England, Hungary and Germany.

Ukrainian-style cake wins Warsaw international competition

The cake made by a coffee-confectionery ‘Lihuminka’ won the international cake competition held in Warsaw. 13 teams competed for the grand prize.

‘Our national cake conveys all the beauty of Ukrainians, feature our traditions and customs, sincerity and purity of true Ukrainian soul!’ – FB-page of the confectionery says.

All the cakes were evaluated on 1600 criteria; the idea, theme and complexity of cake shape were among of them.

The jury (8 best confectioners from around the world) also took into account techniques of decoration. The Ukrainian cake involved 12 complex techniques and caramel processes.

Film by Cherkasy director to be shown at Cannes Festival

Halyna Lavrinets, the graduate of Kaniv College of Culture and Art, will present her short movie ‘Confession’ at Cannes Film Festival to be held on May,16-22.

‘Confession’ is a 22-minute documentary about the hard life of artist Volodymyr Kalnenko who left his comfortable life in St.Petersburg and moved to Ukraine.

The short movie about the artist was selected for the special festival section ‘Short Film Corner’. Participation at Short Film Corner guarantees publishing information about movie and its director in the catalogue distributed among festival guests.

Modern Ukrainian art to be presented in European Capital of Culture

‘Lviv Month’ project will be held in Wroclaw on April,1-30. For the first time in the history of European Capital of Culture initiative the project is participated by a city from non-EU country.

The organizers expect Lviv to serve a platform to present the whole Ukraine to Europeans. ‘Lviv Month’ mission is both presenting modern arts of Ukraine, initiating and strengthening mechanisms of cross-cultural synergism between Ukrainian and Poland art ambient, and creating universal space to comprehend differences and common traits of Ukrainian, Poland and EU citizens as well.

Within the month about 100 Ukrainian artists (poets, writers, directors, musicians, mentors, painters, performers and intellectuals of different fields) are going to visit Wroclaw.

The project includes concert of Dakh Daughters, Vivien Mort, Dagadana, shows of ‘The Guide’, ‘The Tribe’, ‘Maidan’ films, meetings with Andrii Kurkov, Sofia Andrukhovych, Irena Karpa and other events.
