He moved from USA to Ukraine and teaches to make kobza and bandura
41-y.o. Ukrainian composer, producer, inventor of unique musical instruments, cultural activist, teacher and sound director Yurii Fedynskyi was born and grew up in USA. Once in US among his mom’s records he found a record of bandura band of pre-war period. At that moment Yurii found his vocation, ‘but bandura and kobza don’t sing in the foreign land, they cry’.
‘Ukraine is a third-world country, contaminated by Chernobyl, the land of Communism. I heard it many times since childhood in USA. Though I had another opinion. This was the culture of my ancestors. My grandparents told me about blooming cherry trees, cuckoo singing, kind and sincere people, Ukrainian songs and vyshyvanka. Before coming I knew I would see both black and white. And it is really like this. This is my land, and I would not move from here’, Yurii remembers.
Having received his first degree in USA from Henry Doskey (classical piano) Yurii came to Ukraine to get his second degree.
