Ukrainian community of Wellington Region wins the New Zealand festival prize

For the second time Ukrainian community of the Wellington Region won the main award ‘The Best Stall’ at the annual Festival of Cultures in Palmerston North.

Ukrainian women prepared many tasty national dishes: borshch, varenyky, holubtsi, pyrizhky, vatrushky, crepes, deruny, cakes and even Easter kulich. No wonder that a huge line of people wanted to try Ukrainian food. The table was decorated with traditional korovai.

Besides tasty food, Ukrainian stand attracted visitors with numerous handcrafts made by talented Ukrainian women: ornamented pots, yarn dolls, traditional Ukrainian jewelries, vintage Ukrainian stamps etc.

The highlight of Ukrainian stand was a miniature composition of traditional Ukrainian interior with stove, bench, icons and even crib.

The first Ukrainian film festival to go to Amsterdam

The first festival of Ukrainian films ‘Ukraine On Film. Way To Freedom’ takes place at the famous Amsterdam cinema ‘Pathé Tuschinski” from March,30 until April, 1.

The festival program includes three documentaries’ ‘Eleven’ by Dziga Vertov, ‘Russian Woodpecker’ by Chad Gracia and ‘Winter On Fire’ by Yevhen Afineevskyi.

As one of the festival organizers, Anastasia Sidelnyk, said the festival conception is to present the documentary about the significant events for Ukraine.

The days of Ukrainian films are organized before the referendum on Ukraine-EU Association scheduled for April,6.

Designer Natalka Hansen: Danish princesses have our bags in their collection

Natalka Hansen together with her Italian friend, Mary Sini, founded Naledi Copenhagen brand in Denmark (exclusive ostrich hide handbags and clutches, accessories). The brand has become very successful within the last 5 years. Some items are even bought by the members of the Danish royal family.

The clutches are made of ostrich leg leather that reminds reptilic leather.

‘Ostrich leather is very nice tactical material for accessories and bags; one of the most exclusive leather that can exist’, the designer explains.

Naledi Copenhagen first customer was a famous Copenhagen shop Rue Verte where the royal family go shopping. The first bag from Naledi Copenhagen collection was bought by the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Now she has 7 bags from Ukrainian designer. Another Danish princess, Princess Marie, has 6 bags from Naledi brand.

Apart from Denmark, Naledi Copenhagen is sold in other Scandinavian and EU countries. Now the brand team is working on starting business in Finland and Iceland.

Ukrainian scientists invent an ECG bracelet-controller

Ukrainian scientists invented a bracelet ‘Platforma 20K’ that can read and control ECG.

As the project coordinator Yevhen Nashteitik says the ECG bracelet solves one very important task as collection data to analyze heart rhythm variability, a diagnostic of a non-existing disease that can probably appear in the nearest future. The heart rhythm variability analysis is very important for the healthy individuals as it can show physical condition and psychoemotional state.

Yevhen’s team also is working on cloud service to connect patients and doctors. The service will get users’ data, process it and inform doctors about patient’s condition.

The team is incorporated in Los Angeles but all researches are carried out in Ukraine. ‘Platforma 20K’ cooperates with GrowthUP accelerator. The Marketingid developers also invested in the project. For now, ‘Platforma 20K’ starting budget is $240,000.

The invention commercial version may be launched in September, the device will look like a usual fitness-bracelet.

Ecoisme gets support of Richard Branson’s business accelerator

The Ukrainian IoT-startup (founded by Olexandr Diatlov and Ivan Pasichnyk) is the only CIS country included into Virgin Media Accelerator Program. The accelerator was launched by a famous businessman Richard Branson and American incubator TechStars. The startup will get $ 120 000.

The startup Ecoisme is a household energy saving device. It was founded in 2013 by Naraz Mokrynskyi, Ivan Pasichnyk and Olexandr Diatlov. In 2014 the startup won the second place at IDCEF Kyiv conference and received €10,000. In summer 2014 having received €80,000 investment from HubRaum accelerator the team moved to Poland. In 2015 the developer received investment from business-angel Bastian Godsky.
