Unique Volyn fabric might become one more brand of Ukraine
Rivne local
administration and Centre of Volyn Research and Revival lobby for including
Volyn serpanok to the non-material cultural heritage of UNESCO.
Volyn serpanok is a
unique fabric weaved from thin almost transparent thread of special linen. Long
time ago the fabric was produced only in Volyn region. For more than 100 years
people thought that a unique technique of serpanok manufacturing was lost.
However, several
years ago Centre of Volyn Research and Revival decided to renew this legendary
fabric. It took craftwomen three years to revive this technique.
Thus along with
Petrykivka painting (Dnipropetrovsk region) and Opishne pottery (Poltava
region) Ukraine can get a new brand, Volyn serpanok (Rivne region).
