Dr. James J. Coyle is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center. He is also director of global education at Chapman University, and visiting professor of public policy at Pepperdine University. He is a frequent lecturer and writer on the South Caucasus and the Middle East, with articles in Newsweek, Kyiv Post, Stars and Stripes, etc. Before joining Chapman University in 2004, Dr. Coyle was a foreign service officer for twenty-four years with postings in Pakistan, Germany, and Turkey. He served as a special advisor to the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, and was director of Middle East Studies at the US Army War College. Dr. Coyle received his Ph.D. from The George Washington University. He is coauthor of the textbook, Politics of the Middle East: Culture and Conflict.
