The government has determined the procedure for the payment of irrevocable subsidies to producers of buckwheat, millet, rye and oats in the amount of up to Hr 5,000 per hectare (but not more than 300 hectares per farm), the total budget of the state support program will amount to Hr 50 million in 2021.
The relevant resolution was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers at a session on Aug. 11.
According to an explanatory note to the document, the introduction of state support will increase the acreage for buckwheat, rye, millet and oats and thus increase their gross production to the size of the domestic market with the prospect of Ukraine entering export markets in these segments. In addition, state support will contribute to the development of related industries (seeds, processing), ensure food security and reduce the price of these crops for the end consumer.
As reported, last week, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food developed and sent for government approval a draft procedure for the use of Hr 50 million in 2021, allocated in April by the Cabinet of Ministers, to support producers of niche grain crops: buckwheat, millet, rye and oats.
Such state support is introduced in Ukraine for the first time this year.
