You're reading: Competition agency to check lawfulness of cargo tariffs increase by Ukrzaliznytsia

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion has instructed the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to check if the new tariffs for cargo transportation of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia meet the antimonopoly legislation, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported on October 23.

“The Antimonopoly Committee must, in a short time, check the validity of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia’s increase in tariffs for freight rail traffic and compliance with antimonopoly legislation,” the government reported on its website at the end of a meeting devoted the situation in the market for rail transportation of agricultural products.

Among the participants of the meeting are representatives of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Sea Port Authority and business associations, people’s deputies.

Ukrzaliznytsia should also provide all the necessary calculations for the tariff policy, according to the release of the company.

The press service said that Kistion ordered to analyze the effectiveness of low-active stations while limiting their activities.

In turn, the Ukrainian Agricultural Council (UAC) and the Ukrainian Association of Rural Councils strongly opposed the decision of Ukrzaliznytsia to raise tariffs for the transportation of grain by 50 percent.
