You're reading: Court convicts businessman Lytvyn of fraud during purchase of backpacks for National Guard

A panel of judges of Kharkiv’s Chervonozavodsky district court convicted businessman Volodymyr Lytvyn of fraud and forgery of documents during the purchase of backpacks for the National Guard of Ukraine, sentencing him to five years in prison with probation.

“The terms of the guilty plea bargaining are in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Procedural Code… The court concluded that it is possible to validate the plea bargaining… The court awarded: the guilty plea bargaining is validated,” the court said in its verdict voiced by Chairman of the panel of judges Viktor Yezhov on the evening of Sept. 11.

According to the sentence, Lytvyn will have a 2-year probation period after the completion of the prison term, and will be accountable for damages in the amount of Hr 4.845 million.

The sentence comes into force after the expiry of the term for filing an appeal, if such an appeal is not filed.
