The dismantling of illegally operating retail outlets in the underground passages of the center of Kyiv began after the intensification of investigative actions into the case of millions of shadow incomes received by a group of people covering up this business, prosecutor of Kyiv Oleh Kiper has said.

In an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, answering the question of whether there was a need to involve Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers in investigative actions on the episode with the underground passages of the Ukrainian capital, the city prosecutor said that “this criminal case was launched on the materials from the Security Service of Ukraine, and the SBU officers carry out operational support in it.”

Thus, as the prosecutor of Kyiv said, there was no separate need to involve intelligence officers, since they were initially involved in the investigation.

Kiper also said that “it is also indicative that on May 12, when active investigative actions began in this proceeding, a massive dismantling of illegal outlets, which had been functioning there for years, began in the underground passages of the central districts of Kyiv.”
