You're reading: Farmers in seven regions already complete harvesting of early grain crops

Ukrainian farmers on August 13 completed a campaign to harvest early grain crops in Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Poltava, and Zakarpattia regions.

In total, Ukraine threshed 33 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops from 9.5 million hectares (96 percent of the planned areas), the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine said on its website. The yield was 3.46 tonnes per hectare.

In particular, farmers harvested 23.9 million tonnes of winter wheat from 6.3 million hectares (99 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 3.78 tonnes per hectare, while 519,000 tonnes of spring wheat was harvested from 146,000 hectares (74 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 3.56 tonnes per hectare. The yield of winter barley was 3.1 million tonnes, harvested from 871,000 ha, which was 99.9 percent of the forecast, its yield per hectare was 3.53 tonnes.

Farmers also harvested 4 million tonnes of spring barley from 1.5 million hectares (92 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 2.7 tonnes per hectare; the yield of peas was 771,000 tonnes from 419,000 hectares (96 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 1.84 tonnes per hectare. The yield of rye totaled 351,000 tonnes from 131,000 hectares (88 percent) with a yield of 2.68 tonnes per hectare. Some 301,000 tonnes of oats were harvested from 127,000 hectares (64 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 2.37 tonnes per hectare.

In addition, 2.5 million tonnes of winter rapeseed was harvested from 967,000 hectares (99 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 2.64 tonnes per hectare, while the yield of spring rapeseed was 61,000 tonnes from 29,000 hectares (44 percent of the forecast) with a yield of 2.09 tonnes per hectare.

The ministry forecasts that Ukraine’s grain yield this year will remain at the level of 2017, namely over 60 million tonnes.
