You're reading: Kharkiv candy store chain fined for selling sanctioned Russian sweets

The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Kharkiv region conducted inspections of business entities that sell Russian sweets banned for import into Ukraine, the press service of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection said on Oct. 27.

“Sanctioned Russian goods shall not be sold in Ukraine. These products are imported and sold on the territory of Ukraine illegally. It is impossible to confirm the quality and safety of such products,” Head of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Vladyslava Mahaletska said.

The department in Kharkiv region said that according to government resolution No. 1147 dated Dec. 30, 2015 on the prohibition of the import into the customs territory of Ukraine of goods originating from Russia, according to the list of goods prohibited for import into the customs territory of Ukraine, the import and sale of these products is prohibited.

“According to the results of the inspection, it was withdrawn from sale and prohibited … further circulation of Russian-made chocolates (manufacturers – PJSC Krasny Oktyabr, Moscow; OJSC Confectionery Concern Babaev; Pobeda factory in Moscow, Stary Oskol Belgorodskaya region; JSC Akkond in Cheboksary – sweets of nine names),” the regulator said.

For violation of the requirements of the legislation on product labeling, business entities are subject to penalties.
