Leader of the UDAR political party, mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko presented the concept of the city’s transport and parking policy on Oct. 7, the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reports.
According to Klitschko, at the moment, work on the first stage of the intercepting parking system in the capital continues – 12 sites for almost 3,500 cars. Five of these parking lots are already in operation.
“We are creating intercepting parking lots so that people could use public transport. Work on the first stage is already underway – 12 parking lots for almost 3,500 cars. First of all, we are equipping them at the entrances to the city, five of them are already operating: on Vydubychi, Akademmistechko, Chervony Khutir, on Hlushkova Avenue, on Syrets,” the capital mayor said.
He said that the city looks for and “encourages” investors for the construction of parking lots. Also, projects are being developed for parking on Volodymyrska Street, on Volodymyrsky passage, European Square and near the Oleksandrivska hospital.
“An investment competition is already underway for the construction of the latter,” Klitschko said.
He said that the city will continue the construction of underground and multi-level ground parking lots.
“We have built an underground parking near the Velotrek. Today, all the parking lots are occupied both day and night. The multi-level parking for 435 parking places near the Zoo is used by about 1,000 cars a day on weekends. In front, together with the business, we have equipped an even larger, convenient outdoor parking. Thus, we cleared Zoolohichna Street, where it was impossible to pass, and the public transport line on Peremohy Avenue. Also, we equip parking lots for visitors near the parks and recreation areas that we overhaul. And the construction of multi-level and underground parking is the experience that we plan to implement throughout the city,” the mayor said.
He said that within the framework of the transport and parking policy concept, the city also plans to equip another 50 kilometers of public transport lines with parameters that will make it impossible for cars to move in these zones, to install air conditioners in public transport salons, to oblige carriers to provide detailed information about the carrier and the driver, an electronic and printed board with a timetable for traffic at each stop in Kyiv (the maximum error in the timetable for traffic is two minutes), and also equip another 100 kilometers of bike paths in the capital.
