Kyivstar, a mobile operator, has launched the Just Stay at Home interactive service, a map of following the rules for self-isolation by its subscribers, based on big data, the operator said in a statement on its website on April 13.

“We hope that a clear illustration of important and useful information in the form of interactive graphs and maps based on big data, will help users better understand what is happening,” Kyivstar chief marketing officer Pavlo Daniman said, commenting on the operator’s initiative.

He also said that the main indicators of the operator’s network displayed on the map clearly show how Kyivstar copes with the network loads.

According to the information released by the operator, in Kyiv and Kyiv region the percentage of people who limited their movements during the period of self-isolation is 29.22%, in Odesa region 21.89% of the population limits their movements, then 19.15% in Kharkiv, some 18.77% in Lviv, some 18.28% in Dnipro.

“The methodology for determining the self-isolation compliance index is based on the analysis of changes in base stations by phones of the Kyivstar group of subscribers and the distance from the zone of primary location to a radius of more than 1,000 meters within the calendar day for which the data is calculated,” the operator said in the statement.

The schedule for using the services of a mobile operator displays how the consumption of voice and mobile Internet has changed on average during the quarantine period compared to the pre-quarantine period.

According to the operator, during the quarantine period in March, the number of incoming and outgoing calls increased by 7%, and their duration increased on average by 27%. The daily use by Internet subscribers increased, on average, by 12%.

The operator said that graphs and charts are automatically built on Kyivstar Big Data algorithms and are average sections of behavior not of specific individuals, but of certain categories or groups of subscribers.
