Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced it is resuming flights between Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.

The company is launching flights between Odesa and Abu Dhabi starting in October 2020. They will be operating two times a week — on Thursdays and Sundays, according to the company’s website.

Flight tickets from Odesa to Abu Dhabi cost about Hr 1,460 ($54).

The ticket in the opposite direction, to Ukraine, is cheaper and starts at Hr 870 ($32) if one takes only hand luggage weighing up to 10 kilograms.

The relaunch of the flight to Ukraine is part of Wizz Air’s expansion strategy, as the airline simultaneously starts operating additional flights from Abu Dhabi to other countries: Egypt’s Alexandria, Athens in Greece, Kutaisi in Georgia, Larnaca in Cyprus, and Armenia’s capital Yerevan, UAE Gulf News reported.

“This announcement is the first step of a long and much-awaited journey,” Jozsef Varadi, chairman of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and chief executive of the Wizz Air Group, said in the company’s statement.

“We are dedicated to developing our presence in Abu Dhabi, contributing to (the UAE’s) economic diversity strategy, while offering ever more affordable travel opportunities on our low fare network.”

Wizz Air used to operate flights between Kyiv and Dubai back in October 2013. The route, however, was suspended in 2015 because of the escalation of the war against Russia in eastern Ukraine and the economic crisis in the country, Wizz Air stated at the time.
