The Lviv City Council on March 1 signed a guarantee agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which arranged a financing package of up to 17.5 million euro for the acquisition of up to 50 new trolleybuses made by Lviv-based Electrotrans and upgrade transport infrastructure, according to a posting on the website of the Lviv City Council.

The funds will be provided to municipal enterprise Lvivelectrotrans, which operates 10 trolleybus routes with a total length of almost 75 kilometers in the city.

According to the agreement, the Lviv City Council acts as guarantor of liabilities of Lvivelectrotrans to the EBRD. The package consists of a 13-year EBRD loan of up to 15 million euro and a loan of up to 2.5 million euro provided by the Clean Technology Fund. The project will finance the acquisition of up to 50 new trolleybuses as well as maintenance equipment, the rehabilitation and modernisation of two electric transport depots and the catenary network.

It is expected that the upgrade will reduce electricity consumption by approximately 20% and will cut CO2 emissions by 1,907 tonnes annually.

According to the report, early February the EBRD confirmed that a consortium consisting of JV Electrotrans and PJSC Electron Concern won a tender to supply 50 trolleybuses to Lviv held at the end of last year. The agreement was signed on February 18, 2019. The term of the delivery is 44 weeks.
