You're reading: New housing construction in Ukraine plunges by 56.5%

The total area of residential buildings for which the papers authorizing to carry out construction works (new construction) were received, fell by 56.5% in Ukraine in January-March 2020 year-over-year, to 1.1 million square meters, the State Statistics Service has reported.

According to statistics, in the first quarter of this year, the total area of new construction of multi-apartment buildings amounted to 1.062 million square meters (92% of the total).

The total area of new housing construction in Kyiv city decreased by 83.1% compared to the first quarter of 2019, to 184,400 square meters, while in Kyiv region the decline was only 10.5%, to 196,700 square meters.

Significant volumes of new housing construction were also recorded in Lviv (238,900 square meters), Khmelnytsky (121,200 0 square meters) and Odesa (111,700 square meters) regions.

The indicators are given, not taking into account the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Sevastopol City and temporally occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
