Sixty-seven percent of Ukrainian women over the age of 15 were subjected to some form of violence and only 17 percent of them sought help, according to the results of the OSCE-led survey on the Well-being and Safety of Women for Ukraine, conducted by the Organization in 2018.

Some 2,048 women over the age of 18 were interviewed as part of a study in Ukraine. The results indicate that 67 percent of women in Ukraine over the age of 15 were subjected to psychological, physical, or sexual abuse, the OSCE press service reported on Nov. 28.

Some 11.25 million (estimated) of women state that they have experienced psychological, physical or sexual violence at the hands of a partner or non-partner since the age of 15, the OSCE gives an approximate recount based on the results of the study.

More than a third of Ukrainians (35 percent) aged from 18 to 74 think their friends would agree that a good wife obeys her husband, even if she does not agree with him.

Almost a fifth of women (19 percent) between the ages of 18 and 74 think their friends would agree that a wife should have sex with her husband, even if she doesn’t want it.

More than a quarter of women (26 percent) between the ages of 18 and 74 agree that domestic violence is a private matter and should be addressed within the family.

Almost two-thirds of women (64 percent) between the ages of 18 and 74 believe that in general, violence against women by partners, acquaintances, or strangers is very or quite common.

However, only 17 percent of women turned to the police or social services for help.

A representative sample of a quantitative study included women aged 18 to 74 years living in Ukraine. In total, in April-September 2018, 2,048 interviews were conducted. All of them included face-to-face communication with the respondent. The data obtained were estimated in accordance with the known characteristics of the population of Ukraine.
