Primary registrations of used passenger cars in Ukraine doubled in 2018 compared with 2017, to 116,800, the Ukrautoprom association has reported, reminding that the market of new passenger cars last year fell by 0.6 percent, to 81,800 cars.

“The increased demand for used imported cars has led to a general increase in the primary market for passenger cars [new and used cars] by 43 percent, to 198,600,” the association said on its website.

At the same time, in December, Ukrainians registered 21,400 used cars, as a result of which the primary market amounted to 28,400 cars, and the share of used cars on it reached a record 75 percent.

“The growth of the primary registrations of imported used cars in Ukraine was promoted by the adoption of laws on the legalization of used cars with European license plates,” the association said.

According to the Ukrautoprom, Volkswagen has become the leading brand of the year in the primary market of passenger cars, registrations of which rose to 19,250 units, which was 3 times more than new cars of the same brand.

Renault is in second place with registration of 14,758 used cars, which was 1.7 times more than the number of new ones, Skoda took the third place with 10,615 (almost 2 times more than sales of new ones).

Ford became the fourth most popular: 7,854 Ukrainians chose the imported used Ford cars, which was 2.5 times more than those who chose new ones, and Opel was fifth with 6,827 used cars against only 209 registered new ones.
