You're reading: Share of cashless payments in PrivatBank terminals grows 2-fold

The number of card transactions in the terminals of the state-owned PrivatBank (Kyiv) doubled, to 137 million purchases in January compared to the same period in 2020 (Hr 71.9 million), the press service of the bank said.

According to the press service, the volume of such transactions in January this year amounted to Hr 28.8 billion.

According to the bank, most often during this period, Ukrainians paid with cards for purchases in grocery stores and supermarkets (55% of the total amount of payments), in pharmacies (7%), in cosmetics and beauty goods stores (6.2%), as well as in electronics and household appliances stores (6.1%).

It is indicated that 241,000 POS terminals are currently operating in the PrivatBank network, 90% of which accept contactless payments by cards or smartphones.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of Jan. 1, PrivatBank ranked first in terms of total assets (Hr 568.244 billion) among 73 banks operating in the country.

On Dec. 18, 2016, the Ukrainian government decided to nationalize PrivatBank and injected over Hr 155 billion into its capital.
