Ukraine should show much faster increase the development of mineral deposits in the next 10 years, which can additionally bring $400 billion of additional GDP over this period, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

“We have oil and gas. We have ores and precious metals. We are here talking about a fantastic potential of over $400 billion, which we must use in the next 10 years,” he said during the presentation of the country’s economic audit and vectors of economic development before 2030 in Kyiv on Nov. 6.

Currently, there are over 12,000 explored deposits in Ukraine, and only a third of them are being developed, the prime minister said.

Shmyhal said that the extraction of minerals does not mean its obligatory export – the extracted raw materials can also be used as a basis for the creation of high-tech products with additional value.
