You're reading: Ukraine increases electricity consumption by 2.3 percent in 2018

Electricity consumption in Ukraine in 2018, taking into account in-process consumption in power grids, increased by 2.3 percent (by 3.489 billion kWh) compared to 2017, to 153.214 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Without taking into account in-process consumption, electricity consumption for the year increased by 2.6 percent (by 3.076 billion kWh), to 122.003 billion kWh.

The country’s industry without taking into account in-process losses raised electricity consumption by 2 percent, to 51.993 billion kWh. Metallurgical industry consumed 29.569 billion kWh (1.8 percent more compared to 2017), fuel industry 3.532 billion kWh (2.3 percent less), the machine building sector some 4.054 billion kWh (1.9 percent more), chemical and petrochemical industry 3.101 billion kWh (7.4 percent more), food and processing industry 4.566 billion kWh (3.6 percent more), construction materials sector 2.248 billion kWh (0.8 percent less), and others 4.923 billion kWh (3.8 percent more).

In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 3.866 billion kWh (6.2 percent more), transport companies some 6.947 billion kWh (1.4 percent less), while construction firms 946.4 million kWh (6.1 percent more).

The population of the country in 2018 consumed 35.957 billion kWh (2.7 percent more), household consumers 15.474 billion kWh (3 percent more), and other non-industrial consumers some 6.820 billion kWh (7.2 percent more).
