You're reading: Ukraine increases steel output, ranks 13th in Worldsteel rating

Ukraine’s metallurgical enterprises in November increased steel production by 30.8% compared to the same period in 2019, to 1.733 million tonnes, climbing from 14th to 13th position among 64 countries, the world’s main producers of these products compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

In November, a rise in steel production from November 2019 was recorded in most of the top ten countries, except for Japan, the United States and South Korea.

The top ten steel producing countries in November are as follows: China (87.66 million tonnes, an increase of 8%), India (9.245 million tonnes, a rise of 3.5%), Japan (7.264 million tonnes, a drop of 5.9%), the United States (6.12 million tonnes, a drop of 13.7%), Russia (5.855 million tonnes, 1.9% up), South Korea (5.76 million tonnes, 2.4% down), Vietnam (4.098 million tonnes, an increase of 116.7%), Germany (3.376 million tonnes, 14.8% up), Turkey (3.22 million tonnes, an increase of 11.6%), and Brazil (2.954 million tonnes, an increase of 11.2%).

They are followed by Iran (2.575 million tonnes, an increase of 14.1%), Italy (2.049 million tonnes, a drop of 3.2%), Ukraine (1.733 million tonnes, a rise of 30.8%), Taiwan (1.565 million tonnes, a decrease of 5.2%), and Mexico (1.45 million tonnes, 1.7% up).

In November, 64 countries produced 158.261 million tonnes of steel, which is 6.6% more than in November 2019.

In January-November 2020, 64 countries produced 1.67 billion tonnes of steel, which is 1.3% less than a year ago.
