You're reading: Ukraine rises to 12th place in steel production

According to the results of the work of metallurgical enterprises in March, Ukraine reduced steel production by 10.3% compared to the same period in 2019, to 1.765 million tonnes, but rose from the 13th to the 12th place, and according to the results of the first quarter rose from the 12th position to the 11th in the ranking of 64 countries, the main global manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association.

According to the record in March, there was a decline in steel production by March 2019 in most countries of the top ten, except for Turkey and Iran.

The top ten steel producing countries according to the results of March is as follows: China (78.975 million tonnes, a 1.7% decline), India (8.650 million tonnes, a 13.9% decline), Japan (8.2 million tonnes, a 9.7% decline), the United States (7.222 million tonnes, a 6% decline), the Russian Federation (5.850 million tonnes, a 4.4% decline), South Korea (5.776 million tonnes, a 7.9% decline), Turkey (3.110 million tonnes, a 4.1% growth), Germany (2.9 million tonnes, a 20.9% growth), Brazil (2.635 million tonnes, an 8.2% growth), and Iran (2.250 million tonnes, a 14.1% growth).

This is followed by Vietnam (1.847 million tonnes, a 3.5% growth), Ukraine (1.765 million tonnes, a 10.3% decline), Taiwan (China, 1.580 million tonnes, a 22.2% decline), Italy (1.377 million tonnes, a 40.2% decline), and Mexico (1.330 million tonnes, a 20.6% decline).

Some 64 countries produced 147.054 million tonnes of steel in March, which is 6% lower than in March 2019.

For the three months of 2020, the top ten steel producing countries are as follows: China (234.450 million tonnes, a 1.2% growth), India (27.505 million tonnes, a 5.3% decline), Japan (24.360 million tonnes, a 2.4% decline), the United States (21.946 million tonnes, a 1% decline), the Russian Federation (17.907 million tonnes, a 1% decline), South Korea (16.936 million tonnes, a 4.8% decline), Germany (9.473 million tonnes, a 9.3% decline), Turkey (8.975 million tonnes, a 9.6% growth), Brazil (8.018 million tonnes, a 7% decline) and Iran (6.750 million tonnes, a 13.2% growth).

This is followed by Ukraine (5.318 million tonnes, a 3.4% decline), Italy (5.278 million tonnes, a 16.2% decline), Vietnam (4.956 million tonnes, a 0.1% decline), Taiwan (China, 4.870 million tonnes, a 14.6% decline) and Mexico (4.144 million tonnes, a 16.6% decline).

Some 64 countries produced 443.030 million tonnes of steel in January-March, which is 1.4% less than in the first quarter of 2019.
