Ukraine’s Acting Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets expects the first “green” auctions and auctions for maneuverable generation to be held in 2021.

“We have improved the auction model to support renewable energy sources by law. Those who want to build green generation will compete and reduce the price … It will start operating next year,” she said at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to her, at present, the ministry, together with international organizations, is working out the best places and volumes of quotas for the construction of new renewable energy facilities.

Buslavets also noted that the ministry has already prepared the procedure for holding tenders for a new highly maneuverable generation, but to simplify the procedure, it is necessary to adopt amendments to the current legislation by the Verkhovna Rada.

“I hope that next year, in the first half of the year, we will be able to implement this, because our energy system cannot wait. The need for additional highly maneuverable capacities is about 2 GW,” the minister said.

Buslavets considers the sites, where the outdated combined heat and power plants are located, to be the best places for the construction of gas piston generation.
